Framed by an impressive city wall, Cortona rises on the terraces of Monte Sant'Egidio. The Tuscan city has truly breathtaking views to offer. Visitors are well advised to leave their cars at the gates of the city and explore it entirely on foot. A walk along the city wall, which is 3 km long, is a special experience. It still contains parts from the time when Cortona was founded. The city is located on a mountainside, so some particularly narrow, steep and winding paths lead through the centre.
