Souda Bay is a bay in the north-west of the Greek island of Crete. It is located about 6 km east of the city of Chania, south of the Akrotiri peninsula, and is part of the Cretan Sea in the Mediterranean. Souda Bay is approximately 15 km long and between 2 and 4 km wide. It is surrounded by relatively high mountains on both the north and south sides, with only a relatively flat isthmus connecting the peninsula to the rest of the island in the west. At the entrance to the bay, in the east, there are two small islands: Leon and the larger Souda. The latter is home to a fort dating back to Venetian times. At the south-western end of the bay lies the town of Souda, from which the bay takes its name. It is home to the largest natural harbour in the Mediterranean, from where ferry connections to Piraeus are available.
