Although Agios Nikolaos has a population of less than 20,000, it has several banks, supermarkets, all kinds of shops, doctors, a modern high standard hospital, a public swimming pool and tennis courts, a marina, a harbour, a cinema, a theatre, gyms, a 9 hole golf course, schools from kindergarten up to a 6 level high school and in general all the amenities you would expect to find in a modern European city.

The microclimate is one of the best in Greece, with moderate temperatures that rarely exceed 30°C in the summer and rarely drop below 15°C in the winter. This wonderfully dry climate, together with the natural beauty of the area, has led most of Greece's high-class hotels to settle here.
