The microclimate is one of the best in Greece, with moderate temperatures rarely rising above 30 degrees in summer and rarely dropping below 15 degrees in winter. This wonderful dry climate, combined with the natural beauty of the area, has led most of Greece's top hotels to operate here.

Agios Nikolaos is a small, tranquil town situated on several hills. The coastline is long and winding, with a small inland lake connected to the sea that serves as a harbour for fishing boats.
It is a region of picturesque mountain villages, modern holiday resorts and an extensive plateau, the Lasithi Plateau, which is filled with old windmills and magnificent beaches.
