Topolia is a small village in the interior of Crete, 48 km southeast of the city of Chania and about a 20-minute drive from Kissamos. Topolia is located on a hillside and offers a magnificent view of the surrounding region. The most impressive sight near this village is the 1,500 m long Topoliano Gorge. This gorge has steep slopes with numerous caves. The most significant is the Cave of Saint Sophia with impressive stalactites and stalagmites. Topolia is a typical traditional Cretan village with stone houses and narrow streets, whose inhabitants are mainly engaged in agriculture and livestock farming. The village has abundant water, olive trees, chestnut trees and many poplars.

Kissamos is a town 37 km west of the centre of Chania on the island of Crete. It is also known as Kastelli Kissamou or simply Kastelli, after the Venetian castle that was located there. Kissamos is surrounded by beautiful nature and charming beaches. The town has 3,000 inhabitants and has developed as a tourist destination in recent years. Kissamos is also known for its agricultural products such as wine and olive oil. Kissamos has a harbour and a fishing port with regular ferry connections to the Peloponnese. The old Venetian governor's palace houses a town museum, and important archaeological finds have been made in the town, including beautiful mosaics and the harbour of Poliniria. In addition, most of the famous sights and beaches are located in the surrounding area, such as Elafonissi, Falassarna and Balos at Cape Gramvoussa. Kissamos offers all the comforts and facilities that a town can offer. There is a regular bus service to Chania. Chania Airport is 56 km away and the port of Souda is 43 km away.
