Agios Nikolaos is the capital of the Lasithi Prefecture and is located on the Mirabello Bay in the northeast of Crete, only 40 minutes from Heraklion International Airport.

Geographically, the town is well protected from strong winds, making water sports and swimming possible almost all year round. Although Agios Nikolaos has less than 20,000 inhabitants, it has several banks, supermarkets, shops of all kinds, doctors, a modern hospital with high standards, a public swimming pool and tennis courts, a marina, a harbour, a cinema, a theatre, gyms, a 9-hole golf course, schools from kindergartens to a 6-year high school and, in general, all the amenities you would expect in a modern European town.

The microclimate is one of the best in Greece, with moderate temperatures rarely exceeding 30°C in summer and rarely falling below 15°C in winter. This wonderfully dry climate, combined with the natural beauty of the area, has attracted most of Greece's high-class hotels to operate here. The crime rate is one of the lowest in Europe.
