Rousospiti is a village in the prefecture of Rethymno, around 7 kilometres from the town. It lies at an altitude of about 300 metres on the slopes of Mount Vrysina and offers sweeping views of the Cretan Sea. This is why it is also known as the ‘Balcony of Rethymno’.

The village was founded by the Venetians in the 12th century and is divided into an upper and lower town. Venetian houses, a 17th-century fountain, the Church of the Entrance of the Virgin Mary with its well-preserved frescoes, and the listed Monastery of Saint Irini are the village’s main features. Nearby are the Lygeri Cave and two gorges.
