Spilia is a charming traditional village situated just 3 km from the seaside town of Kolymbari. The name "Spilia" means "cave" and refers to the cave of Agios Ioannis, which houses a small church. Legend has it that Saint John lived here after fleeing from the Middle East. The altar at the end of the cave is said to have served as his bed. A beautiful hiking trail leads from the cave through a gorge to the historic Katholiki Monastery.
