Topolia is a small village in the Cretan hinterland, 48 km south-east of Chania town and about a 20-minute drive from Kissamos. Topolia is situated on the slopes of a hill and offers magnificent views of the surrounding region. The most impressive site near this village is the 1,500-metre-long Topoliano Gorge. This gorge features steep slopes dotted with numerous caves. The most significant of these is the Cave of Saint Sophia, with its impressive stalactites and stalagmites. Topolia is a typical traditional Cretan village with stone houses and narrow streets, and most of its inhabitants are engaged in agriculture and livestock farming. The village has an abundance of water, olive trees, chestnut trees and many poplars.

Kissamos is also known for its agricultural products such as wine and olive oil. Kissamos has a harbour and a fishing port with a regular ferry service to the Peloponnese. The town museum is housed in the old Venetian governor’s palace, and significant archaeological finds have been made in the town, including beautiful mosaics and the harbour of Poliniria. Furthermore, most of the famous sights and beaches are located in the surrounding area, such as Elafonissi, Falassarna and Balos on Cape Gramvoussa. Kissamos offers all the amenities and facilities a town can provide. There is a regular public bus service to Chania. Chania Airport is 56 km away and Souda Port is 43 km away.
