Mochlos is a small village with about 200 inhabitants in the east of Crete. It is located directly on the sea, about halfway between Agios Nikolaos and Sitia. Mochlos is an insider tip for anyone looking for a small, quiet village by the sea. The village centre consists of about 20 houses, a few taverns on the shore, a small shop and a few guesthouses. In the evening, you can sit in the taverns around the small harbour. Sometimes someone plays the guitar or you can pass the time playing backgammon or cards. It's easy to meet people in Mochlos. There are some great hikes in the area around Mochlos, and guided day tours are also available during the season. The island just off the coast (Mochlos Island), which is several hundred metres long, is also interesting. There is a Minoan archaeological site here.
